厦门市思明区 recently launched a new digital tool aimed at boosting the local film and television industry. The "Simingdrama Fun" mini-program, version 1.0, has been introduced to streamline filming processes and enhance the region's status as a premier filming location.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy by Siming District to leverage its strengths in hosting the Golden Rooster Film Festival (Jinji Festival), a prestigious event in Chinese cinema. The district aims to transform the temporary excitement of the festival into a sustainable hub for film and television production throughout the year.
With its unique landscapes, including historic buildings and scenic coastal areas, Siming has become a popular spot for movie shoots. Films like "The Silent Honor," "A Flash of Brilliance in the Dark," and the recently aired series "The Wall" have all been filmed here, contributing to the area's growing reputation as a filming destination.
Siming District has also made strides in creating an ecosystem that supports the entire film and television production process. This includes everything from facilitating film crew setups and project recruitment to post-production services and intellectual property rights management. In 2025, during the opening ceremony of the China Golden Rooster Hundred Flowers Film Festival's film market and a signing event for Xiamen cultural and film industry projects, Siming District inked agreements worth 1.1446 billion yuan with 50 film-related projects.
The "Simingdrama Fun" mini-program is designed to address some of the challenges faced by the film and television industry, such as scattered shooting locations and underutilized IP resources. By connecting various aspects of filming—locations, content creation, and business development—the program aims to create a more integrated and efficient system.
The mini-program offers tailored routes for different genres, including romance,青春, coastal scenery, and琴岛 themes. These routes not only showcase the diverse filming locations but also promote the local economy by attracting tourism related to movies and TV shows. For instance, the romance-themed route includes iconic spots like the Red Lighthouse on Hulian Road, Xiatouxia, and the最美转角 on Gulangyu Island.
Additionally, the program is designed to evolve with user feedback. Future updates will include additional features such as cultural and creative products giveaways and discounts at local businesses for those who provide suggestions. This interactive approach ensures that the mini-program remains user-centric and responsive to the needs of both filmmakers and visitors.
As the film industry continues to embrace new technologies like AI-generated content and virtual production, Siming District is positioning itself as a pioneer in integrating digital innovation with traditional filmmaking. The launch of "Simingdrama Fun" marks an important step in this transformation, aligning with the district's goal to elevate its cultural profile and drive economic growth through the film and television industry.
